The current FSTM streetcar route begins at
Ross
Pendergraft
Park on Garrison Avenue and runs
east for two blocks before turning south at the Varsity Sports Grill,
following an alleyway to the Fort Smith Trolley Museum on 4th Street,
where the track turns eastward again and wends its way past the Fort
Smith National Cemetery. A special crossing light allows the
trolley to bring riders in sight of a side entrance to the Fort Smith Convention
Center.
Riders usually board at the Fort Smith
Museum of History
on Rogers Avenue, where ride tokens can be purchased during business
hours. It's also possible to buy tokens at the Fort Smith Trolley Museum on weekends,
when the displays are open to vistors. The streetcar makes additional stops at
the FSTM rose garden on 3rd Street and the parking lot of Varsity
Sports Grill on Garrison Avenue.
The City of Fort Smith has offered
its help in eventually extending the track west from Ross Pendergraft
Park
down to and under the Arkansas River
Bridge, to stop at the city visitors center, Miss
Laura's Social Club. Several more
years down the road, the line may
loop back to form a complete circuit.
